Courses activated for the University of Tor Vergata

Students at the University of Tor Vergata have the opportunity to learn Italian for free with ICoN's self-study online courses

In the 1st semester of the A.Y. 2023-24, all foreign students already enrolled in Tor Vergata University can take an Italian language course for free by enrolling in the online self-learning Italian language courses provided by the ICoN (Italian Culture on the Net) Consortium. The ICoN Consortium – of which the University of Tor Vergata has been a member since its foundation – is a consortium of Italian universities that aims to promote and spread the Italian language and culture in the world through e-learning and new technologies.

At the end of the ICoN Courses, those students who complete 80% of the activities on the platform will be issued a certificate of completion by ICoN indicating the level and number of hours of self-study. ICoN courses do not include a final exam or automatic acquisition of credits. It will be the responsibility of each student’s Home University or Course Coordinator/Director to decide whether to award credits against the certificate issued by ICoN.

The second and final time frame to register is open 28th September 2023 to 9th October 2023. All Students – except those who are Absolute Beginners – will take an online placement test to be placed in the most appropriate level. The test will be available from from 10th October 2023 to 15th October 2023.

The first contact with the Italian Language

A2 - Elementary

To start communicating independently

B1 - Intermediate

For students with a basic knowledge of Italian

B2 - Upper intermediate

To give opinions and understand complex texts

C1 - Advanced

To use the language flexibly in various circles

The course in short

Each course covers a level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Each level consists of 6 thematic modules.

Each module deals with subjects related to important macro themes, domains, and contexts significant for each level.

Each module, in turn, is divided into smaller sections – units – centered on the communication, language and pragmatic objectives.

Units contain 6 activity groups called sessions.

A full course is composed of about 1,000 activities with automated correction, and requires approximately 130 hours of individual study.

Organization

  • Sign up for the language test (from September 28 until October 9)
  • Wait while we send you your login credentials
  • Take the test (from October, 10-15)
  • Access your online Italian course!
  • Complete 80% of the course
  • Request your certificate

How to enroll

Please follow this procedure to sign-up for the language test. Send the following details to iconromadue@italicon.it:

Your first name - Your last name - Your email address (preferably, send us the institutional one, if you have received it from the University of Tor Vergata).

ICoN will send you your username and password to access the online platform. You can take the test from October 10 to October 15: ICoN will notify you which course is the best fit for you, basing on the results. Once enrolled, you can take the online self-study Italian language course.

To have your certificate, you need to complete at least 80 percent of the course and report it to infocorsi@italicon.it. The deadline to complete the course is February 19, 2024.
